Eurocord
Eurocord registry operates on behalf of the European Group for Blood and Marrow
Transplantation (EBMT) which is an international scientific organization on
hematopoietic stem cell transplants.
In order to develop and evaluate cord blood transplant, Eurocord Registry was
established in 1995 under the direction of Professor Eliane Gluckman , Leader of
the Eurocord project.
The registry is an achievement of the Eurocord project that has been financed by
3 consecutive programs of the European Union.
Eurocord works in close collaboration with Netcord cord blood banks and EBMT
centers and database, collecting and validating clinical data of patients
transplanted with Netcord cord blood units or all patients receiving a cord
blood unit in EBMT centers.
Thanks to this collaboration, from 1988 to March 2009, 5223 cord blood
transplantations have been reported to the Eurocord registry from 238 EBMT (68%
of cases) and 199 non-EBMT (29% of cases) centers from 47 European and non
European countries. Eurocord database increases each year with approximately 400
cases reported. The organization of the Eurocord, the clinical control of the
data reported, the active search of transplants performed with Netcord units and
the worldwide collaboration with the Registry have permitted to build a data
base of excellence and has allowed more than 50 publications in medical journals
with high scientific level.
